Heimatbund Thüringen opens an exhibition in the Vogtlandhalle Greiz

On Wednesday, August 7, the Thuringian Homeland Association will open its exhibition “Thuringia – Land of Open Homelands” at 5 p.m. in the foyer of the Vogtlandhalle Greiz.
Culture and landscape, music and theater, crafts and industry – Thuringia has benefited from cultural influences and immigrants from all over the world for centuries. Home was therefore never a homogeneous, closed system of a narrowly defined group of “people who have always been there.” The exhibition, which can be seen until the beginning of September during the opening hours of the Vogtlandhalle, uses exemplary examples to illustrate some of these influences. At the vernissage with representatives of the Thuringian Homeland Association, the documentary film “Sound of Home – Germany Sings” will also be shown on the studio stage.

Greiz Tennis Club presents new club jerseys

In the run-up to the 45th edition of its traditional team cup, the Greiz tennis club ceremoniously presented its new club jerseys in the presence of the responsible sponsors and around 40 members. Although tennis is primarily about individual performance and players often dress according to their personal preferences even in competition, the new jerseys are intended to provide even more motivation, team spirit and public presence, especially in the children’s and youth sector. In addition to the club’s blue and white colors, the club logo and the responsible sponsors can also be found on the jersey. Thanks to the financial support of numerous clubs in the region, the new jerseys can be made available free of charge to all young players and the coaching staff. But demand was also high in the adult sector during the jersey presentation, so that the new eye-catchers will probably often be worn by members of the Blau Weiß Greiz tennis club in the future. The club would like to extend its sincere thanks not only to the sponsors, but also to members Jetti Wagner, Marit Kugler and Patrick Leis, whose commitment has helped bring about the new club jerseys.

Wages for full-time employees continue to rise

As the Thuringia East Employment Agency reports, the new wage atlas for Germany was recently published. The good news is that the wages and salaries of full-time employees have risen sharply. The median wage of all full-time employees subject to social insurance contributions was 3,796 euros per month last year. Compared to 2022, wages and salaries have increased by 150 euros, more than ever since the turn of the millennium. The median wage describes the average wage across all full-time employees. Full-time employees earn the highest median wages in Hamburg (4,304 euros), Baden-Württemberg (4,134 euros) and Hesse (4,087 euros). They are lowest in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (3,098 euros), Thuringia (3,109 euros) and Saxony-Anhalt (3,152 euros). Apart from Jena and the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, income from employment subject to social insurance contributions in East Thuringia is still far below the Thuringian average. In Jena, the median wage is 3875 euros, in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district 3132 euros. In Gera, it is 3019; in the Greiz district 2931, closely followed by the Saale-Holzland district 2922 and the Altenburger Land with 2919. The Saale-Orla district is at the bottom of the list in Thuringia with 2831 euros. This puts it third from last nationwide. Only the Erzgebirgskreis and Görlitz are behind it. “In view of the figures from the current wage atlas, I see this as a risk to the competitiveness of East Thuringia as a business location,” warns Stefan Scholz, head of the Thuringia East employment agency.

Lecture on 500 years of the Peasants’ War by the Society for Antiquities

On Saturday, August 17th, at 11 a.m., the Vogtland Archaeological Society of Hohenleuben invites you to a special celebratory lecture on the occasion of its annual general meeting at the Reichenfels Museum in Hohenleuben. In cooperation with the Historical Commission for Thuringia, Stefan Michel from Dresden will give a lecture on the topic of “The Peasants’ War in East Thuringia”, with an introduction by Marko Kreutzmann from the Research Center for Modern Regional History of Thuringia at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. This event is the start of a series of lectures in Thuringia to mark the 500th anniversary of the Peasants’ War of 1525. The Vogtland Archaeological Society of Hohenleuben, which was founded in 1825 and is one of the oldest German historical societies and will celebrate its 200th anniversary in Reichenfels – Hohenleuben next year, is still active in historical research and knowledge transfer today. The Sunday talks, the yearbook and, above all, the Reichenfels Museum, which the association took over in 2016, are an integral part of the cultural life of the region and far beyond. Attendance at the lecture is free of charge. The Archaeological Society looks forward to welcoming many guests. After the lecture, the museum can be visited and the new 2024 yearbook (No. 69) can be purchased.

Final spurt for “Stars of Sports” in Vogtland

This year, 35 clubs with a total of 36 applications entered the race for the Oscar of grassroots sport at the cooperative bank. This is a slight decrease compared to the record participation last year.
The local jury was faced with the difficult task of finding the clubs with the best socio-political commitment and selecting the five regional bronze winners of the “Stars of Sport” 2024. The “Big Star of Sport” in bronze is endowed with a cash prize of 1500 euros. The five winners at local level will be awarded on September 11th in the Plohn leisure park. All clubs that are not placed will receive a sponsorship prize of 100 euros. All clubs will receive invitations to the event in mid-August. The representatives of the three regional district sports associations Vogtland, Greiz and Saale-Orla, as well as representatives of the regional media and the top athlete Sebastian Hendel came together for the jury meeting. With their expertise, they support the competition once again and ensure a fair selection of the clubs. The jury members are also an expression of public recognition for the diverse voluntary work of the sports clubs in the region. The top three winners from the Vogtland district, as well as the winners from the Greiz district and the Saale-Orla/Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, qualify for the next round of the “Stars of Sport” silver at state level. The highlight and conclusion of the competition is the awarding of the “Stars of Sport” gold. They are presented to the national winners at a gala event in Berlin. The “Stars of Sport” are an initiative of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and the Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken.
