This will be Biruta Baumane’s fourth exhibition at the Ojārs Vācietis Museum. In the center of the exhibition is the city of Riga – from the old Zaķusala to Bolderāja, from the Old Town to Pārdaugava. One painting by Biruta Baumane, depicting Zaķusala, can be seen in the German living room above the piano.
Ojārs Vācietis has written about the artist: “Biruta Baumane shows not the situation, but the situation. The inviolability of life, the insurmountable continuation of life, the indestructibility of life, the inexorable continuation of life, flows from the canvases. And I lost my lying autonomy and became stronger with some newly regained communion, yes, with it here in a row of lindens on the street, where the juice is already starting to mumble, which, so trapped in the ground, grows in the sky so that the devil will tear, how much of its life is one capacious making.[..] For Biruta Baumane, all this bubbling life is concentrated in a canvas like a flood in a river, like a flint of fire, like a whole field of dandelions in a small seed. ”
