In the exhibition “Baltic Sia” by Kristian Brekte and Modra Svilāns, the artists have focused on the problems of climate change and the unpleasant consequences of pollution of the Baltic Sea. From the objects found and collected on the beach, the artists have made objects of different sizes, redims and assemblages. The artists have also created several neon works and kinetic installations that work with motion sensors.
The name “Baltic Sia” is an ironic commentary on the consumer reality and the connection of active business with the production of goods, and thus also the promotion of pollution. At the same time, Baltic Ltd. is a phonetic and encrypted game with the relationship between the English word sea and the abbreviation Ltd. (limited liability company).
The exposition also includes several unique assemblages created by students of Liepāja Secondary School of Music, Art and Design, participating in creative master classes led by K. Brekte and M. Svilāns.
