Referring to the central theme of the Riga Photography Biennale 2022 – isolation, in addition to Lismanis’ previously created, revised and reworked works, the exhibition will also feature new works created during the pandemic, the organizers report.

Lismanis uses his daily practice as an assistant in the artist’s studios in London to create his work.

“By focusing on the invisible processes of photographic imaging, the artist recognizes and simultaneously challenges the traditionally accepted structures of imaging, the ways in which they are exhibited, and the art production industry,” the creators of the exhibition write.

Interest in materials, production conditions, and artists’ study and exhibition spaces play a key role in Lisman’s practice. As a result, he forms an open conversation between the individual’s subjective everyday perception and the formal qualities of works of art. Thus, the artist’s fragmentary and sometimes irrational approach creates new forms, meanings and sets, paying attention to the essence of things. In his works, he uses the remnants of the process of producing both his own photographs and photographs and photographs. By combining them into collages and referring to the aesthetics that dominate the urban environment, Lismanis blows them with the inks used in photographic printing.

Evita Goze, curator of the Arrangements exhibition, says: “The material in the exhibition has evolved through the constant use of a variety of photographic and artistic accessories. a set of materials and conceptual elements that have both been developed (as well as rejected) in previous projects and revised and reworked during the pandemic, as well as a number of newly created works not yet exhibited. “

The artist Reinis Lismanis (1992) currently lives and works in London, Great Britain, where he studies art history at Birkbeck College, University of London. He previously graduated from the University of Brighton. Lismanis has had several solo exhibitions: at the Latvian National Museum of Art’s Arsenals Creative Workshop in Riga, at Brockley Gardens and no format in London, and at CCA: Dorset Place in Brighton. So far he has participated in group exhibitions in Tallinn, Athens, Riga, Budapest, Novo Mesto, Treviso. He has published two monographs, Trial and Error (Skinnerboox, 2019) and T6031_T6061_T8001 (NoRoutine Books, 2019).
