Convicted murderer Anthony Sanchez (44) was executed on Thursday this week in the state prison in Oklahoma, reports the news agency Assosiated Press (AP).
Sanchez was convicted in 2006 of having raped and killed 21-year-old Juli Busken in 1996.
The 21-year-old had just finished her last semester at the University of Oklahoma when she was abducted from a parking lot.
Her body was later found near a lake on the outskirts of Oklahoma City.
– It’s not mine
For several years, the case was unsolved, until Sanchez was imprisoned for a burglary and had to take DNA tests.
The samples from Sanchez are said to have matched the DNA found on 21-year-old Busken.

– It’s fake DNA. It’s not my DNA. I have said that from day one, he said in a telephone interview with AP earlier this year.
Sanchez has always believed that his DNA has been planted in order to arrest a perpetrator.
The last words
Sanchez’s lawyer, Eric Allen, asked for the execution to be postponed – citing that he needed more time to review the evidence in the case. However, the US Supreme Court rejected the request on Thursday.

On the same day at 10.08 local time, the 44-year-old received the fatal injection. Eleven minutes later he was pronounced dead.
The convicted murderer’s last words are now receiving attention:
– I am innocent. I didn’t kill anyone, Sanchez is said to have said as he was arrested.
Former Cleveland District Attorney Tim Kuykendall was the prosecutor when Sanchez was brought to trial in 2006. He told the AP that although the DNA match was the most incriminating evidence in the trial, a shoe print was also presented.

– I know from having spent a lot of time on this case, that there is not a single piece of evidence that pointed to anyone other than Anthony Sanchez. I don’t care if a hundred or a thousand other people confess to having killed Juli Busken, says Kuykendall.
According to Fox News Sanchez asked for one last meal consisting of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, a roll, iced tea and apple pie with vanilla ice cream before he died.
No one from Juli Busken’s family was present during the execution.
