British shooter Amber Rutter lost her hopes of fighting for Olympic gold after her successful attempt was ruled a mistake by the referees and the video was rejected.
The silver medalist from Paris called on the International Hunting Federation (ISSF) to take responsibility and change.
Rutter was fighting for gold in the skeet final until the last minute when he suddenly went to burnout. The Briton lost as she was said to have missed the deciding shot, but TV footage suggests she hit the target.
Rutter and his coach immediately protested the judges’ decision, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The shooter, who fought for the precious metals just four months after giving birth to her son Tommy, has now returned to the controversial final.
“I feel it is my duty not only to myself, but to the entire shooting community to raise awareness and address this issue,” she said on social media.
“All athletes, especially at the Olympic Games, deserve to compete under fair conditions. Whether it is through experienced and exceptional referees or new technologies such as VAR, we have always been at ISSF tournaments,” said Rutter.
She does not count on the fact that she would win an additional gold. But he is waiting for a report from the burning federation.
“At this point, I can’t imagine that anything big will be done. That’s not what I’m after. But I believe that some responsibility must be accepted, to admit and apologize for the wrong decision that ultimately cost me a chance to win an Olympic gold medal.” she said.
