Valuable orchards, embankments, extensive hedge fringes, mixed deciduous forests, vineyards and pastures characterize the landscape around St. Martin Castle. According to the Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive, black woodpecker, green woodpecker, gray woodpecker, black stork, sparrowhawk, stock dove and many other remarkable bird species could be recorded here. We will discuss all the bird species that we perceive both acoustically and visually, as well as interesting plant species. And we will learn to understand how all of this is related to biodiversity.
The event takes place exclusively outdoors. An alternative date will only take place in the event of heavy rain, otherwise in any weather!

Mariatrost is characterized by a structural diversity of habitat types. Numerous old wood stocks in the gently higher elevations, dry meadows, wet meadows, mixed deciduous forests, gorges with streams, orchards, rocky dry slopes and many other habitats line the idyllic landscape in the Graz area. It is therefore not surprising to come across interesting and remarkable bird species on a regular basis. Various griffins such as buzzards, hawks and sparrowhawks, several species of woodpecker, oriole, starlings, thrushes, finches, titmouse, treecreeper, some species of snapper, swallows, sailors, bunting and much more populate this partly mosaic-like networked landscape.
