The Rhine was still flooding in August. At that time, 700,000 liters of water per second plunged into the depths at the Rhine Falls. The visitors were offered an impressive natural spectacle. Currently, however, the tourists are presented with a completely different picture.
On Saturday, a runoff of a good 200,000 liters of water was registered at the Rhine Falls, which is almost half the amount of water usual at this time of the year. The current water level is more typical for January, when the Rhine has particularly little water here. Incidentally, the least amount of water was measured in 1921. At that time, just 95,000 liters per second rushed over the cliffs of the Rhine Falls. The highest flow rate was measured during the floods in June 1965 with 1.25 million liters.
