Dusseldorf. The next conversation in the “Music in Conversation!” series, in which personalities from Düsseldorf’s musical life will be spoken to, will take place on Tuesday, January 30th, at 7 p.m. in the city window of the Central Library, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz 1. This time the guest is Martin Fratz. The interview will be conducted by Frederike Möller, pianist and festival organizer.
Born in Düsseldorf, Martin Fratz is an orchestra conductor, choir director, pianist, organist, arranger, university lecturer and concert presenter. He completed his studies in Cologne, Stuttgart and Hanover “with distinction”. Over the course of his career, he conducted more than 800 performances of all genres at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and also led around 50 concerts with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra. As a pianist, Fratz enjoys playing jazz, soul and salon music in addition to classical music. He has been teaching score playing and song accompaniment at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen for 20 years. In an interview, Martin Fratz reveals why, in addition to Mozart and Beethoven, he also likes to listen to Miles Davis or Earth Wind and Fire in his free time and why Carlos Kleiber and Claudio Abbado are among his “conducting gods”.
The Düsseldorf composer Oskar Gottlieb Blarr will be a guest at the next event on March 26th.
