Written by Dalia Al-Dhanini:
Dr. Arif Gharib, a member of the Egyptian delegation to negotiate the Ethiopian dam file, revealed the details of the first visit to the dam site in May 2012, explaining that the Ethiopian side was keen for each member to be in a car identified with a number.

He added during a special interview with the journalist Ahmed Moussa, presenter of the program “On My Responsibility”, broadcast on Sada El Balad channel, that he did not get into his car, so he rode with the representative of the company that is constructing the dam.

He explained that the Prime Minister of Ethiopia informed those in charge of the dam construction process to build the largest possible dam and not to look at the costs or any repercussions.

He added that Egypt during the era of the Brotherhood reconciled with some countries, and quarreled with others, including those who financed the dam, and after the departure of the Brotherhood, this country withdrew the funding.

He confirmed that the cost of the supposed dam was $4.5 billion, but estimates indicate an increase in the cost to $6.5 billion, explaining that the Ethiopian dam, if operated at full capacity, would generate $500 million in annual revenues from the sale of electricity annually, and this is from the theoretical side.

He explained that the dam was supposed to generate revenues from selling electricity since 2017, but this did not happen, which means that the dam achieved losses that were added to the cost, which rose to 12 billion dollars, which is called the economic cost.
