While the future “super-metro” of line 15 of the Grand Paris Express is making its first rounds in Valenciennes, Parigo presents exclusively the images of its first dynamic tests.
The objective is to “to support“the train before its arrival in the Paris region. At the Valenciennes rail test center (Nord), the metro of the future line 15 of the Grand Paris Express is already running. Two trains have been manufactured by Alstom. “We try to make a little more energetic increases in speed, also a little more energetic braking, see if the train has faults, see if anomalies go up“, describes Damien Baudry, driver.
If line 15 will be automatic, these first tests are carried out with a driver and engineers on board. Dozens of parameters are measured on a 1.8 km ring, on which the metro turns in circles. “We have a lot of sensors installed on the train, explains Pierre Lassalle, project manager at Alstom. We measure speeds and temperatures in real time, with the aim of monitoring all the important variables to watch out for. We do traction performance and braking performance tests. We check that the train stops within the distances stipulated in the contract.“
Red and blue seats, large openings, air conditioning… Inside, the metro already has its final appearance. “The train is connected. We see USB connections. The train will also be equipped with wifi. We also have video surveillance systems which are regularly distributed“, says Benoît Barthe, rolling stock project manager. “The trains are automatic, driverless, but they are connected with the control center. As soon as there is a problem, we are always in direct contact“, he adds.
Two trains should arrive at the end of June in the Paris region, at the workshop in Champigny (Val-de-Marne). The on-site tests, which should last two years, can thus begin. Before the opening of line 15, 27 trains must be manufactured, representing an investment of 680 million euros. They will have six cars, while the trains that will run on lines 16 and 17, of the same model, will only have three cars.
