Exclusive Epic First Run Program Offers Developers and Publishers 100% Earnings: Epic Games Store vs Steam

The Epic Games Store is not giving up and continues to compete with Steam, again using exclusives. In recent years, a number of publishers, including established ones, have taken up Epic’s offer of releasing a title exclusively on its platform, at least for a limited time. But now Epic is taking it even further, offering developers and publishers a full 100% of earnings if they become part of the newly introduced Epic First Run program.

By default, Epic takes 12% of the earnings, leaving 88% for developers or publishers. In contrast, Steam takes 30%, i.e. with this distribution alone, Epic lured developers and games into its offer. However, if developers join the Epic First Run program and make their title exclusive to Epic for six months, they will receive a straight 100%. After this period, further earnings will be distributed according to the already mentioned standard. However, this will not be the only advantage that participation in the program will bring, as such titles will also be displayed on the main page of the store with a special section and a special label.

It sounds like an interesting offer, but given the reputation Epic Games Store among players and their reactions to previously released exclusives on this platform, the question is whether some titles might not be harmed by exclusivity. Of course, this will have to be assessed by the developers themselves at the moment. Applications to the program are open to small and large developers and publishers with a registered Epic Games developer account, the title itself must be released after October 16.
