The astronomical increases in gas prices in recent weeks have been the bane of, among others, inhabitants of our voivodeship.
We have written on our website many times that the inhabitants of the vicinity of Jarocin or Poznań have to pay much higher gas fees. Now the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection is taking the floor on this matter.
– We are closely monitoring the energy market, in particular, we see the problem of high increases in gas prices. We receive complaints from consumers, entrepreneurs and local government officials who are directly affected by this issue. However, I would like to emphasize that the issue of approving prices applied by enterprises selling gas to households is the exclusive competence of the President of the Energy Regulatory Office, and UOKiK has no legal possibility to question the tariffs approved by the President of the ERO – says the President of UOKiK, Tomasz Chróstny.
In recent weeks, UOKiK has been flooded with signals about increases. The media was also to inform that the president of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection could lead to a reduction in gas prices. – The matter of approving tariffs for gaseous fuels for households, i.e. for consumers, is the exclusive task of the President of the Energy Regulatory Office. The President of UOKiK is not authorized to control the correctness of the proceedings conducted by the President of the ERO, is not an appeal body against administrative decisions issued as a result, and is not authorized to change tariffs approved by the energy market regulator. Importantly, the President of UOKiK was not a participant in administrative proceedings conducted by the President of the ERO, as a result of which the tariffs applied by entrepreneurs who significantly increased their rates of nitrogen-rich gas sales in recent weeks, including G.EN Gaz Energia from Tarnowo Podgórne or Anco, were approved. from Jarocin – underlines UOKiK.
In October, UOKiK asked PGNiG for clarification on the current situation on the nitrogen-rich gas market, produced in Poland by PGNiG. – In matters related to gas price increases, the key role is played by the President of the ERO and a thorough analysis of the proposed rates for households submitted by entrepreneurs, so that dynamic and possibly temporary increases in gas prices on exchanges are not reflected in permanent price increases for consumers – explains Tomasz Chróstny.
