The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, considered that “the ability to live and adapt to diversity is what makes us restless, and we hope to combine in the Lebanese system political, defensive, and monetary centralization on the one hand, and administrative and financial decentralization on the other hand, and this is the core of Lebanese unity.” It has nothing to do with retail.”
He added during a Ramadan iftar held in Byblos: “When we completed the document of understanding, the defense strategy that protects and defends Lebanon was a cornerstone of it, because we were convinced that the Lebanese army and the resistance proved that they are capable of liberating and protecting Lebanon.”
Basil stressed, “Today, we do not need anyone from outside to liberate our land or defend us. There are stages in our history that we must have learned from and not repeat.”
He stressed that “the Cairo agreement is dead, and the land no longer exists, and we do not need anyone to come and use our land to send messages… We do not accept on our land except with Lebanese weapons in the hands of the Lebanese, and we want our country to be ours, not to be a mount for anyone,” noting that “we have resisted.” All countries, small and large, to say that we want to live together as Lebanese, regardless of our differences, and we do not accept that one resorts abroad to gain power over the other in Lebanon.
Bassil said: “If we did not have the ability to defend our country, perhaps someone could have theorized for other solutions… But after we have proven our ability, why do we accept that missiles are fired from our land of non-Lebanese origin, and why do we go back to days gone by that were buried and we should have learned from them?” “.
He continued: “Have we not learned since 1948 about the issue of the Palestinian refugees who were deprived of their homeland and tortured, and what caused us this matter of problems so that we go back in 2011 and repeat the experiences with the Syrian exodus and refrain from standing together to contain our Syrian brothers out of the door of humanity and Arabism, but to say that Lebanon is unbearable.” Economic displacement?”, stressing that “our position on the issue of Syrian displacement is neither racist nor sectarian, but rather patriotic… Shall we listen to the international community, even at the expense of our country?”
He stressed, “We are a unitary movement and we want the unity of Lebanon. We cannot live outside this unity, and we always strive for that, no matter how they distort our truth and our words, but the nature of our movement is the nature of our country.”
Basil also announced, “The appointment of former candidate Rabih Awwad as a member of the political council of the Free Patriotic Movement.”
