The last hurdles have been cleared for car manufacturer Audi to become active as an engine supplier in Formula 1. RacingNews365 has seen a letter in which the top of the group gives the green light.
In the letter, addressed to Jean Todt and Stefano Domenicali, Audi first of all congratulates the FIA on a wonderful 2021 season, which has been described as a ‘very sporty championship, even up to the last round’.
Audi thanks the FIA for the constructive talks that have taken place regarding the brand’s participation in Formula 1. In it, Audi acknowledges that the finish line is in sight and an important milestone has been passed in the form of the technical regulations for the new F1 engines that will be introduced from 2026.
The so-called ‘Regulation Framework Issue 6’, which was approved during the WMSC meeting last week. In concrete terms, this means that the frameworks for the engine formula that will be introduced in F1 from 2026 are fixed.
In the letter, Audi indicates that participation in Formula 1 will be confirmed at the beginning of 2022.
