Adrian Ivan, coordinator of the doctoral thesis of Minister Lucian Bode and rector of the “Mihai Viteazul” National Information Academy of SRI, will no longer coordinate doctoral theses at the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca for the next 2 years, the institution announced higher education in a response to Edupedu.ro’s request. The decision was taken after the UBB Ethics Commission found several examples of plagiarism and faulty citation in Minister Lucian Bode’s doctoral thesis, concluding that “the thesis is deeply flawed” and demanding the withdrawal of the book published on the basis of the thesis.
In the response to Edupedu.ro’s request, the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB) says that professor Adrian Ivan also “requested this (N.Ed. – that in the next 2 years no more be allocated to him doctorate places), motivated also by the pressure of managerial tasks with implications on the careful monitoring of the activity of doctoral students”.
10 days after the Ethics Commission found the plagiarism and mistakes that deeply “flawed” the doctoral thesis that he coordinated at UBB, the University decided that the course taught by Adrian Ivan at the doctoral school of UBB should be taken over by another teacher. “In order not to be under the pressure of multiple tasks, with negative effects on academic documents, until the end of the managerial activity at the “Mihai Viteazu” National Academy of Information, the course “General research methods and the methodology of the elaboration of scientific papers” was taken by researcher Sergiu Gherghina (also lecturer at the University of Glasgow) starting with the academic year 2022-2023″, says UBB in the response to Edupedu.ro’s request.
