The new test build of Windows 11 brings a lot of news
The system is richer in artificial intelligence and can unpack RAR archives
Settings got a new home screen
Microsoft revealed at this year’s Build developer conference that it is going to deploy Copilot, a smart assistant powered by artificial intelligence, to Windows 11. Copilot will probably be integrated into Windows in the next major update this fall, but its services can already be used by Insiders in the latest test build of Windows 11 with number 23493.
Artificial intelligence right in Windows
In Windows 11, Copilot has the form of a side panel, which is called up either by an icon on the Main panel or by pressing Win + C. Through this panel, you can directly change system settings, edit documents, compose arbitrary texts, create images, etc. A panel with the Copilot function always it runs on top and never overlaps the windows of other applications. The feature is tied to a user account – either Microsoft or Azure Active Directory.
Native support for new archive formats
At the Build conference, Microsoft also promised to add native support for more archive formats to Windows 11. Starting with this build, the following files can be extracted:
.dehet .tar.gz .tar.bz2 .tar.zst .tar.xz .tgz .tbz2 .tzst .txz .rar .7z
If you were used to using the programs WinRAR or 7zip, thanks to this new product you will no longer need them.
New home page Settings
The new build of Windows 11 also brings a new Settings home page that is designed to adapt to user needs and provide quick access to important items. The home screen contains interactive tabs with settings that the user accesses most often. Some changes can be made directly from the tabs, for others it will be necessary to delve deeper into the settings. At the moment, Settings supports seven different tabs:
Recommended settings Cloud storage Account recovery Personalization Microsoft 365 Xbox Bluetooth devices
More cards should be added soon.
Restore applications
Windows 11 also adds a new feature in the form of the ability to back up and restore your entire computer from cloud storage, be it files and folders, installed applications, selected settings or saved passwords. Also included in this build is the ability to restore the full Start menu with all pinned apps, where if the app is in the Microsoft Store, the user will be prompted to re-download it, and if it’s not, the user will be prompted to download it from the website.
New volume mixer
Another novelty is a modified volume mixer, which will allow you to quickly adjust the volume for individual applications. The new mixer can be opened either with the icon on the taskbar or via the keyboard shortcut Win + CTRL + V.
Window layout designs
In Windows 11, Microsoft also started experimenting with recommending the placement of individual windows in a pre-prepared grid. Currently, you have to choose the layout of the individual windows yourself, the Redmons will want to make the designs for you.
All the above news are only available in the Dev channel for now, they will come to the more “cautious” channels later.
