It is an institution, in the North and far beyond its borders. The Braderie de Lille will be back the first weekend of September. What’s new in store for you (some things that have disappeared come back) for the 2023 edition, which will be held on Saturday September 2 and Sunday September 3.

1. A big used bike sale

On Saturday, the Place de La Nouvelle Aventure in Wazemmes will host five or six sellers of second-hand bicycles. A first on the Braderie de Lille, organized by the Adav (Association right to cycling). Enough to test the formula with the brads. Martine Aubry, mayor of the city, proudly recalls that the sale “is to date the largest circular economy event in France! Here is a new aspect.

2. New sections of streets for stalls

For several years, the perimeter of the Braderie has changed. The neighborhoods each have their own identity: “the axis of China”, the “kids sale”… In 2023, Lille residents will be able to take advantage of 80 km of stalls. 26 portions of streets have been added in recent years, supports the mayor of Lille.

For the next edition, you can hunt on the odd side of rue des Chats Bossus and on the even side of rue Basse. A decision taken in response to requests from residents.

3. The caterpillar, a new record to beat

This year, an original proposal: the brads will be invited to beat the world track length record. Will the Capital of Flanders be the city in which the record of 3,940 “caterpillars” hooked up, achieved at the Rouen Armada, will be surpassed? Bertrand Lefebvre, director of France Bleu Nord at the initiative of the idea, believes in it. According to the first elements, the appointment will be given on Saturday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Esplanade side. To be continued…

4. The return of the heaps of mussels

In 2023, we will again be able to see piles of mussels in the city. After a stoppage of this tradition, which is nevertheless a flagship and represented on a good number of archive images of the event, we found a pile of mussels, unique, place Rihour. This had frustrated many Lille residents and restaurateurs. “There were hygiene concerns, linked to the piles of mussels, then the restrictions due to Covid. This year, it’s the big comeback of heaps of mussels,” says Martine Aubry. Phew!

The Braderie de Lille without its heaps of mussels, it’s not really the Braderie de Lille.

5. Unpublished Braderie 23 posters on sale

This year, the Braderie posters will undoubtedly make you want to dance. We dive into atmospheres of other eras, with these more or less vintage posters referring to hits! “Let me sell off”, “Fripes from desire”, “Oh sale, if you knew”, “Sale like never before”, “It sells off for me, me, me, me, me” or even “I will remain your best sale “.

They will be displayed all over the city before the event, but above all they will be sold there. Some 2,000 copies were left with Secours Populaire to be sold (€3 each) on 2 and 3 September, for the benefit of the association.

There is no doubt that, like the program for this edition, this visual identity is intended to be unifying.
