Exciting Space Events on August 23: Falcon 9 Launch, Soyuz 2.1 Takeoff, and Chandrayaan-3 Lunar Landing Attempt

So far, it seems that August 23 could wish all space fans. In a relatively short sequence, three interesting events will await us. Two of them are even so close that if the current schedule is maintained, we will combine them into one transmission. In Florida, the Falcon 9 is preparing to take off at 2:47 a.m. CEST, which will carry the 2nd generation mini satellite as part of the Starlink 6-11 mission. At 3:08 a.m., the Soyuz 2.1 rocket should take off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome with the Progress MS-24 cargo ship carrying supplies to the International Space Station. With all due respect to both named broadcasts, the main thing awaits us at 14:34 CEST, when India will attempt the lunar landing of its Chandrayaan-3 probe. We will comment on all these events for you as part of our broadcasts.

Final overview:

Start time and date: August 23 at 02:47 CEST
Start location: Rampa SLC-40, Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida
Rocket: Falcon 9 Block 5 (first stage not yet announced)
Primary load: unspecified number of Starlink v2 Mini satellites
Cargo weight: Not listed
Delivery Orbit: LEO, inclination 43° to the equator
First stage: The first stage will attempt to land on the JRtI sea platform, which will be waiting 642 kilometers from the launch site.

We will start our broadcast about 15 minutes before the start, i.e. around 02:30 CEST. If you’re interested in joining the chat, click on the video title in the upper left corner to take you to the YouTube page for that broadcast. If the current schedule is followed, this broadcast will transition smoothly into the transmission from the Progress start, and both starts will thus be in one recording.

EDIT 22 August 21:40
There won’t be a double broadcast after all, as Starlink moves to 6:00 at the earliest. So the transmission would start at 5:45. So both Starlink and Progress will have their own transmissions.

EDIT August 22 11:15 p.m
Starlink will not fly on Wednesday! Maritime closures have been lifted, so the start will not be until August 24 at 2:22. The transmission would start at 2:05.

Final overview:
