Exciting New Star Wars Content in the Works for 2024 and Beyond

In a year when not a single Star Wars film will be released in theaters, can the fandom still hope? Actually, yes. Although those responsible are still exploring what to do next with the films, 2024 still has some new Star Wars content in store.

Let’s take a look at what awaits us when it comes to Star Wars in 2024. Of course the dates can still change!

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

One of the most interesting Star Wars stories may also be the first we’ll see in 2024: Star Wars Skeleton Crew with Jude Law. According to initial information, this live-action coming-of-age series is about four children trying to find their way back home. The series will take place at the same time as The Mandalorian, i.e. after Return of the Jedi.

Hard facts about this still very mysterious series have not yet been officially published, although material was shown during the Star Wars Celebration that focused heavily on a “new age” and the kids who urgently needed someone to show them the way , concentrated. Accordingly, Jude Law will also play a character gifted with power. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts and Christopher Ford were created. Daniels from Everything Everywhere All At Once is directing.

It’s becoming apparent that Skeleton Crew adds to the Star Wars lore in an interesting way, enriching the world with stories that haven’t been explored before in this franchise.

The series was actually supposed to air at the end of 2023, but is currently scheduled for 2024. All eight episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will appear on Disney+ as usual.

The Bad Batch: Staffel 3

Star Wars: The Bad Batch ends with the upcoming season 3 and tells a story about the Clone Force 99 one last time. It is important to resolve the cliffhanger from the season 2 finale.

Details about the plot of The Bad Batch Season 3 are currently scarce, but there was already a preview at Star Wars Celebration that suggests that Sheev Palpatine will become the central threat, especially now that Omega is being held captive. Additionally, it seems that the clones and the process of cloning play a significant role in this final chapter. The comeback of Fennec Shand, who was last seen in the first season, is also announced.

There is also no start date for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3, but the animated series is expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2024.

Star Wars: The Acolyte

The long-awaited live-action debut of the High Republic era will appear in 2024. Star Wars: The Acolyte, as a series from this era, is set long before the Skywalker Saga, with which almost all of the stories so far have been closely related.

In Star Wars: The Acolyte we witness the climax of the Jedi Order and the rise of the dark forces already simmering in the shadows. The cast includes Amandla Stenberg, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner Smith, Manny Jacinto and Carrie-Ann Moss.

As with many items on this list, it is not yet clear when The Acolyte will be released. In any case, it should be ready in 2024.

Tales of the Jedi: Staffel 2

The first season of Dave Filoni’s animated series Tales of the Jedi gave us significantly more insight into both important and mysterious Jedi characters like Ahsoka Tano, Count Dooku, and even Yaddle.

During Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm announced Tales of the Jedi Season 2 and that’s all we know about this season. We don’t know whether stories from the first season will be continued or whether additional Jedi will be introduced. We don’t even know the era in which the second season will be set.

We have no doubt that there are many more Jedi stories to explore. We will see these at some point in 2024. This time too, all episodes will probably be released at once.

Star Wars: Outlaws

Star Wars: Outlaws was announced last year and we are eagerly awaiting this game. It is an open-world game set in the action-adventure genre whose plot takes us to the time between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The focus of Star Wars: Outlaws is Kay Vess, an outlaw who, together with the cuddly Nix, fights her way through the galaxy and plans a raid of galactic proportions. With Kay and Nix you explore familiar and new worlds in the Star Wars universe and try to master the fine balancing act that comes with working between the Galactic Empire and the crime syndicates of the underworld.

There is also no specific start date for Star Wars: Outlaws, apart from the year: 2024.

The future: 2025 and beyond

There’s a lot, a lot of Star Wars coming our way, but a lot of it is still in early production phases or the status is simply unclear. You should no longer expect these films and series in 2024.

Andor: Staffel 2

Considered by many to be the best Star Wars series to date, Andor ended after an incredible Season 1 with a surprising riot and escape by Ferrix.

Does the fact that we already know the fate of the main character mean that we already know how the series will play out and it doesn’t keep us hooked? No not really. Tony Gilroy’s series has already been described as moving, poignant and a must-watch. We were pretty sure that the 12-episode season 2 of Star Wars: Andor would be released in 2024, but a recent press release from Disney about the series’ 2024 releases doesn’t mention Andor in the slightest.

Rey’s film about the new Jedi Order

One of the upcoming Star Wars films looks at Star Wars’ past, but this one focuses on the future. Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is working on a film about the new Jedi Order, led by none other than Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker.

The film is reportedly set 15 years after the return of Emperor Sheev Palpatine. What happened after Rey channeled the Jedi who preceded her to destroy Palpatine?

The film will address exactly that question and show how Rey rebuilt the Jedi Order from nothing. Maybe we’ll see Rey keep order with her yellow lightsaber, maybe we’ll see Finn embark on his quest to become a Jedi. We may also see a young Mandalorian Jedi named Din Grogu who helps the Jedi Order find its way back to its old power.

Of course, this is just speculation about what we might see in the film, which was originally dated for 2025. We’ll see when this actually makes it into theaters.

Dave Filoni’s Heir to the Empire film

This film has not yet been given the title Heir to the Empire, but somehow everyone suspects that that is exactly what it will be called.

Newly appointed Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni is working on a major Star Wars film that will bring together some of the Disney+ stories from the Star Wars universe, and it’s best to just let the man do it.

It brings together the stories of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka, or so it is said so far. After Grand Admiral Thrawn’s return to the real Star Wars galaxy and his narrow escape from former Skywalker student Ahsoka Tano, he will certainly be thrilled that the Empire was destroyed by, of all people, a humble farmer named Luke Skywalker.

It will also have to be seen what the former Jedi Baylan Skoll plans to do with the relics of the Mortis deities in a galaxy far, far away. This will probably become important. And let’s not forget Din Grogu, who in some ways represents the future of the Star Wars universe. We can’t wait for him and Papa Din to get back into the action, and assuming The Mandalorian Season 4 arrives at some point, this film could be the next reunion.

The still untitled Heir to the Empire film is expected to be released in cinemas in 2026.

James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi Movie

If you think 2026 is still a long time away, then… you’ll have to wait a little longer.

After all, there’s also an Old Republic film in the works, helmed by Logan and Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold. This film is described as “Dawn of the Jedi” and is intended to explain how the first Jedi found their powers and came together, forming the Jedi Order. Apparently the action is set more than 25,000 years before the current Star Wars stories.

It was also announced during the Star Wars Celebration that there is something biblical in the film and that sounds pretty cool. However, we still have to be very patient, because the film can only be expected from around 2026.

Taika Waititis Star Wars-Film

And let’s not forget that Thor: Judgment Day director Taika Waititi is also working on a Star Wars film that is still in development. With his film he wants to revive the magic of the original trilogy and it would be a surprise, but a very pleasant one.

Although Waititi will no longer direct the next Thor film, the Star Wars film – if it ever comes out – is just one of many projects he is pursuing. And accordingly it will take a while until we see the film.

But let us know at this point: Which Star Wars project are you most excited about?
