African road cycling is set to experience exciting moments with the participation of ten teams in the 23rd edition of the Tour Chantal Biya, which will take place in five stages from October 3 to 7 in Cameroon. Eight of the ten competing teams are African, which reflects the rise of this sport on the continent. Besides Algeria, we find Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Gabon, and of course, Cameroon as host country, which will be doubly represented by two teams. The two other teams entered in this competition are European, symbolizing the international aspect of the Tour Chantal Biya. France and Slovakia will bring their European touch to this African race. The Algerian selection has started its preparation since its arrival on Saturday evening in Douala, Cameroon. After a grueling journey of more than 16 hours, with a stopover in Paris, Algerian cyclists are now ready to measure themselves against the competitors.
The Algerian national team is made up of six talented runners: Hamza Yacine, Azzedine Lagab, Abdallah Benyoucef, Ayoub Ferkous, Abderraouf Bengayou and Mohamed Abderrahmane Kessir. They will be led by the experienced coach Abdelbasset Hannachi, who will be able to count on the mechanic Fouad Hamza to ensure the proper functioning of the bikes. After the Tour Chantal Biya, the Algerian national selection will not take a break, because it will participate in the second edition of the Ongola Grand Prix, scheduled for October 8, over a distance of 100 kilometers, still in Cameroon. Part of the Africa-tour, the 23rd edition of the Chantal Biya Grand Prix will begin today in Kribi, a coastal town in Cameroon. After a first criterium stage in this city, the riders will go to Yaoundé, then to Ebolowa for the second stage. The third stage will take place in the Southern region in Ebolowa and Nkolandom, followed by the fourth stage in Sangmelima after passing through Mengong. The riders will then pass through Avebe and Mvomeka’a before ending their journey in Meyomessala with the fifth and final stage.
