The Premier League is at a standstill, but don’t worry, sports fans. The offer during the Christmas holidays is large. For example, the darts players complete their World Cup, the skaters compete in a National and European Championships, the cyclo-cross riders are racing and Rafael Nadal returns to the tennis court.
So are you fed up with the family? Then there is still plenty to follow. We have listed a selection of what is on offer for you.
December 24: a warm-up
Before we all start enjoying Christmas meals, a football match is scheduled for December 24 as a warm-up. Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray will compete against each other in Turkey.
Normally a poster to look forward to, but now even more so. The numbers 1 and 2 of the Turkish Süper Lig are fighting for the top position.
26 december: Boxing Day
Football is also played during Christmas. For example, the Manchester United match on Boxing Day will determine Erik ten Hag’s mood during these holidays. Unless Ten Hag doesn’t make it to Christmas at all.
De Tukker is under pressure from the poorly performing Red Devils. A home defeat on Boxing Day against Aston Villa would give him a nasty Christmas.
ReutersTen Hag will be back in action on Boxing Day
But not only Ten Hag has to skip the Christmas dinner on Boxing Day, the same applies to Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo. They will take on Burnley with Liverpool.
The Serie A will also continue as normal, but in Italy they will skip football at Christmas. The competition will continue there on December 29.
December 26 and 30: cyclo-cross
Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert, Fem van Empel and Puck Pieterse do not have to make Christmas plans. They will compete in the mud for the cyclocross world cups. The competition is scheduled for Boxing Day in Gavere, Belgium, with Hulst in Zeeland to be the scene of the battle four days later.
Both matches can be followed on a stream at NOS.
The NOS streams can also be viewed via smart TVs. Be sure to check whether your television’s app store has the NOS Live of NOS app has. In addition, NOS is also present on Apple TV and Android TV.
Streams can of course also be followed via our site and the mobile app.
Thursday, December 28: National Championships track cycling and National Championships distances
The National Championship distances will also take place on Saturday (December 29) and Sunday (December 30).
Later in the Christmas holidays, from January 5 to 7, there will also be skating for the European titles in Thialf, during the European Championship distances. These matches can also be followed on NOS.
From December 31: Nadal’s return to the tennis court
Tennis fans can indulge themselves during the upcoming Christmas holidays. This is how Rafael Nadal makes his return to the tennis court. The Spaniard will play at the ATP tournament in Brisbane after a year full of injuries. The schedule has not yet been announced, so we do not yet know which day Nadal will play.
EPANadal returns to the tennis court
You can also enjoy tennis at the United Cup from December 29. This year the Netherlands has qualified for the tournament with mixed national teams for the first time. Tallon Greekpoor, Arantxa Rus, Wesley Koolhof, Thiemo de Bakker, Arianne Hartono and Demi Schuurs come into action.
January 1: who doesn’t know it? We’re going to jump!
Top shelf tradition on New Year’s Day. Warm up the leftover oliebollen, turn on the TV and look forward to the ski jumping in Garmisch-Partenkirchen from 2 p.m., which can of course be seen on NOS.
January 3: Darts World Cup final
Will Michael van Gerwen manage to win his fourth World Cup title? The Darts World Cup will be on hold during Christmas, but on January 3 we will experience the apotheosis of the tournament in London.
AFP Van Gerwen would like to cheer again on January 3
From 5 January: EK Water Polo
The Dutch water polo men want to go to the Olympic Games for the first time in 24 years. To achieve this, a top-8 finish at the European Water Polo Championships is first required. The first match at the European Championship in Croatia is on January 5 against Romania.
The water polo women will also start their European Championships in Eindhoven. The world champion starts against Croatia.
January 12: Premier League starts again
Once we all stop thinking about the holidays, we can fully focus on Dutch football again. The Premier League starts again on January 12 with RKC – Heracles. A day later we can already treat ourselves to a top match between FC Twente and AZ.
Plenty to experience during the coming holiday!
