Rarely have there been so many different and extraordinary events in and around Darmstadt on one weekend. So the choice is difficult. Here is our excerpt.

Pedigree cats in large rooms: The most beautiful pedigree cats in Europe can be viewed on Saturday, July 8th and Sunday, July 9th, in the multi-purpose hall in Groß-Zimmern, Rathausplatz 2, from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. An international jury judges around 100 animals per day, and the breed winners are presented in the morning and early afternoon. There are also stalls selling gifts, cat accessories and food.

Art Jubilee in Darmstadt: This Friday, July 7th, the Freie Scene Darmstadt is celebrating its 25th anniversary. At 4 p.m., you can take a seat at the Kunstfreiheit’s “Story Table” in front of the Moller-Haus theatre, Sandstraße 10, in Darmstadt. The speeches begin at 5 p.m. and at 6 p.m. the exhibition “Story Teller” opens in the foyer of the theater with cream pieces from 25 years of free performing arts.

Children’s lecture in Darmstadt: “Everything is chemistry” is the motto on Saturday, July 8th, when the Darmstadt Citizens’ Foundation invites you to a free children’s lecture in lecture hall 23 (S1|03), Hochschulstraße 1, in the old main building of the TU Darmstadt. From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Alexander Dauth from Merck will be experimenting with the kids with everyday ingredients.

Lego exhibition in Ruesselsheim Big and small Lego fans should make a pilgrimage to Rüsselsheim on Saturday, July 8th or Sunday, July 9th. Born2Brick’23 will take place in the foyer of the theater at Am Treff 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entrance fees: 5 euros for adults and 3 euros for children. Tickets are available at theater-ruesselsheim.de or at the box office.

Lieder in Riedstadt: The Büchnerbühne Riedstadt and the protestant parish of Leeheim invite you to “Lieder unter Linden” in the church garden, Klappergasse 6, in Riedstadt with free entry. On Saturday, July 8th, from 7.30 p.m., Klaus Lohr, Klaus Dewald, Vitambo and Laurels Green will be performing alongside the BüchnerBühnenBand.

Film music in Darmstadt: On Saturday, July 8th, the Rheingauer Filmsymphoniker from Wiesbaden, together with the choir of the TU Darmstadt, will give a film music concert at 7 p.m. in the Darmstadtium, Schlossgraben 1, in Darmstadt. The motto is “At the end of the world” with pieces from Star Wars, Narnia, How To Train Your Dragon, Avatar and many other films. Tickets are available from 20 euros, concessions from 10 euros online at Frankfurt Ticket and at the box office.

Poster exhibition in Darmstadt: The 29 best motifs from 692 submissions to the 36th nationwide poster competition of the Deutsches Studierendenwerk can be seen in the foyer of the Studierendenhaus and in the “showroom” of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Schöfferstraße 3, until August 15th. “Campus life digital” was the motto that graphics students put on paper in large format.

Open air in Gross-Gerau: At the end of the “GG LOKAL” open-air summer festival, there will be musical fireworks from Friday, July 7th to Sunday, July 9th in the Kulturcafé beer garden, Darmstädter Straße 31, in Groß-Gerau. On Friday from 6 p.m. it’s “Music Changes”. The association of the same name has set itself the task of offering newcomer bands a stage and using this opportunity to collect donations for charity projects. In this case, the entire income goes to the Hospice Foundation Groß-Gerau. Admission is free. On Saturday, July 8th, the “Sdunets” will perform in the Kulturcafé beer garden. The band’s arrangements are wacky and full of ideas. It starts at 7 p.m., admission costs 12 euros at the box office. On Sunday, July 9th, the “Foolhouse Bluesband” will be the end of the program. It starts at 11 a.m. and admission is free.

Choir concert in Dieburg: As part of the Kultursommer Südhessen, the European Partnership Association is organizing a large choir concert on Sunday, July 9th at 5 p.m. on the outside staircase in front of the district office in Dieburg, Albinistrasse 23. Choirs from the singer circles Darmstadt-Land and the district choir association Dieburg perform. There is a swarm singing at the end. In rainy weather, the choir concert is scheduled in the Dieburg Gutenberghalle. Admission is free.

Bravo star cuts in Rüsselsheim: On Sunday, July 9, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Claudia Wolter will guide you through the “Bravo-Starschnitte” exhibition, which brings rock star legends and long-forgotten stars from film, television and music to life in Rüsselsheim until October 1. The cost of the tour of the Opelvillen, Ludwig-Dörfler-Allee 9, is ten euros per person, registration is not required.

Symphony concert in Darmstadt: General Music Director Daniel Cohen presents Mahler’s 2nd Symphony “Resurrection” with the Darmstadt State Orchestra at the end of the concert season. The opera choir of the Staatstheater Darmstadt, supported by the Symphonisches Chor Bamberg, as well as the soloists Jana Baumeister and Lena Sutor-Wernich will be there. The concert dates are Sunday, July 9, 11 a.m. and Monday, July 10, 8 p.m. in the Great House. Tickets in various price categories are available at staatstheater-darmstadt.de

Sculpture Park in Mörfelden-Walldorf: The sculpture park in Mörfelden-Walldorf is celebrating its anniversary: ​​the exhibition is taking place for the 25th time in the park at the community center in Mörfelden, at the corner of Blumenstrasse and Parkstrasse. 24 award winners from the past 24 years are therefore showing their current work until September 3rd. Opening is Sunday, July 9th at 11am. Every Friday evening there is also music, dance, theatre, short films and art tours in the accompanying program.
