Fans of concerts by international musicians, stars of opera and ballet, and the ancient artistic heritage whose roots go back to the eighteenth century are in for a season full of events awaited by the public at Dubai Opera next November, as the countdown to the classical season 2023-2024 has begun.
This season opens with a concert by international Russian musician Alexei Arkhipovsky, nicknamed by his fans as “Jimi Hendrix on the stringed instrument,” and known as “Paganini’s balalaika,” who will present this type of celebration for the first time in the Middle East on November 1.
Arkhipovsky’s star shone due to his eclectic and innovative techniques that changed the public’s point of view and expanded the possibilities of the instrument. He was compared to Niccolò Paganini, the music knight and Italian violin legend in the eighteenth century, in addition to Jimi Hendrix, an American guitarist, singer and songwriter, who was one of the most important legends. Rock in the 1960s, where he dazzled audiences with his innovative electric guitar playing.
Arkhipovsky was officially named “Best Balalaika Soloist in the World” by the Guinness Book of World Records in Russia in 2011, and he will perform popular, classical and contemporary songs in his first balalaika concert in the region.
The Dubai Opera Classic Concert, jointly presented by M Premiere and Mundus Gala, in cooperation with Dresden Opera, will be held in a luxurious atmosphere on November 18 at the Dubai Opera House, and will be the highlight of the season.
Among the stars who will take to the stage are the international Russian soprano Aida Garifullina, who has performed in leading opera houses around the world, the Italian tenor Riccardo Massi, who has performed in prestigious theatres, the Italian soprano Anastasia Bartoli, who is considered a rising opera star, and Vasilisa Berzhanskaya, Russian mezzo-soprano who has won great acclaim for her wonderful music, the Janowska Ensemble from Austria, virtuosos known for improvisation, ballet star and head of the Bolshoi Theater Denis Rodkin, and jazz maestro Igor Butman. The artists will be accompanied by the Northern Sinfonia Orchestra, conducted by Italian music director Fabio Mastrangelo.
Some of the star performers at the Dubai Opera Classic Concert will present their own solo shows, as Aida Garifullina will give her first solo concert in the UAE on November 19.
The next day, November 20, ballet star and head of the Bolshoi Theater, Denis Rudkin, and his friends from the Bolshoi, Mikhailovsky, and Teatro alla Scala dance companies will give remarkable performances, and Denis Rudkin will share the stage with Mikhail Lopukhin and Simin Chudin, the premieres of the Bolshoi Theater, and Eleonora Sevenard.
Film actress, choreographer and ballerina Evgeniya Obraztsova will also join the stage; And the Lithuanian director Rimas Tuminas, who was the artistic director of the Vakhtangov Theater, and Jacopo Tessi, the guest principal dancer at the Alla Scala Theater, and others. They will present some famous masterpieces such as the Adagio from the ballet Raymonda, the Pas-de-deux from the ballet Don Quixote, the Dying Swan, Carmen and many others.
