The Wetterau Liberals met with the head of the music school Corinna Probst under the Vice President of the Landtag Jörg-Uwe Hahn and the FDP district treasurer Oliver Feyl for an exchange of information in the music school in Bad Vilbel and Karben. The school is the third largest in the association of music schools in Hesse. More than 70 teachers teach 4,200 students in individual and group lessons in ensembles, bands and orchestras.
Both sides agreed that there should be a choir in every elementary school in Bad Vilbel and Karben. “Singing in a choir promotes not only musical skills but also the social development of children,” says Hahn. Probst explained that the “singing primary school” project has been running since the 2022/23 school year. “Meanwhile, seven elementary schools in Bad Vilbel and Karben offer choirs,” says Probst.
It is also of great importance that the children in a day-care center come into contact with music at an early age. With the »Mukita« offer, the two municipalities finance 30 minutes of early musical education in each urban day-care center. “Here, the heads of social affairs in Karben and Bad Vilbel are required to expand existing concepts and initiate new ones,” says Karbener FDP city councilor Oliver Feyl. Two-thirds of the students at the music school come from Bad Vilbel and one-third from Karben.
Intensive teaching in small groups is important to Probst, as this constellation provides the students with the greatest benefit from targeted and efficient support. Due to Corona, music lessons were canceled for a long time. This was a negative experience, especially for the students. As a result, they had to give up a hobby and an education.
Hahn emphasized that the Wetterau FDP has been campaigning for better support for the Hessian and Wetterau music schools for many years. »Unfortunately, Hessen can be found in the lower middle field in the corresponding ranking. This cannot be the claim of targeted music funding,” emphasized Hahn.
Finally, Hahn registered to take bassoon lessons from February 2024. »After leaving the state parliament, I continued my school days, at the Augustinerschule in Friedberg I played the bassoon in the school orchestra.«
