“Excessive sugar consumption will cause the virus to easily replicate and also our symptoms will become more severe,” said Dr. Juwalita.

In addition, blood sugar levels that go up and down can have an impact on a person’s psychological condition. If a person consumes foods or drinks that are high in sugar, then blood sugar levels will rise quickly, then fall quickly.

“When blood sugar rises and falls rapidly it turns out to have an impact on psychological conditions, that indeed excessive sugar consumption, excessive added sugar turns out to also have an impact on mental health,” explained Dr. Juwalita.

However, that doesn’t mean we don’t eat sugar at all, just limit sugar consumption because the body also needs enough sugar intake.

Furthermore, Dr. Juwalita explained that at the beginning of the pandemic there were guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) on how to maintain intake, namely a well-balanced diet and maintaining a balanced nutritional intake and consuming fresh, unprocessed or minimally processed foods, such as vegetables, fruits, nuts and animal sources (eggs, milk, fish and meat).
