Excess mortality in the Netherlands increases • Curaçao shortens curfew again

Last week, considerably more people died in the Netherlands than expected. More than 3750 people died and that means an ‘excess mortality’ of almost 850, reports the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Excess mortality occurs among all ages. Statistics Netherlands does not provide an explanation for the higher mortality, but RIVM registered more deaths of corona patients last week.

During the corona pandemic, there was a significant excess mortality for a long time, but that came to an end in February. Since August, the mortality has been clearly above the usual numbers and the figures have clearly been rising in recent weeks.
