A very soft air mass of subtropical origin rises from the Maghreb, causing an increase in temperatures since last Thursday. The softness reached are culminating Monday when records should be broken.
This weekend, an anticyclone centered on theAlgeria, extends its influence towards the south of France. At the edge of this high pressure, air of subtropical origin influences our country with temperatures that will leap forward, being 7 to 10 ° C above the normal season Sunday and Monday.
Spring temperatures
With a very dynamic south to southwest sector flow, temperatures continue to climb until Monday. The air mass is gentle for everyone, despite the rains and the north wind. By foehn effect (compression of the air mass at altitude), this air is even softer between the Landes, the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Gers. In fact, temperatures locally reach the 20 ° C mark in these departments.
Towards a few sweet records on Monday
The peak of sweetness is reached between Sunday and Monday with 13 to 18 ° C on the northern half and from 16 to 24 ° C on the southern half, temperatures worthy of April. Records for the first dekad of February should be broken Monday in the southwest in particular, but they should not be numerous. It will be more difficult to reach the monthly records which are higher, close to 30 ° C at the foot of the Pyrenees (by foehn effect).
Remember that these records are 24 ° C in Biarritz, 26 ° C in Tarbes, 21.4 ° C in Clermont-Ferrand and 26.5 ° C in Perpignan: only the values forecast in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes- Pyrenees and Gers should approach these records. Elsewhere, we will not be far, around 2 ° C. On Monday, the feeling will be very pleasant with a light wind and generous sunshine over the southern two-thirds of the country, but much more agitated, with rains and a lot of wind in the north.
As of Tuesday, a sharp drop in temperatures will occur, with a rocking in a north stream which will bring us back to more consistent temperatures for the season.
