Exceptional snow in Las Vegas and Los Angeles

By Karine DURAND, editor

Snow fell for the third time in a month in Las Vegas, while Los Angeles experienced its first snow since 1962! Look at the images of the snowy American desert, and its most touristy whitewashed cities …

Winter is particularly astonishing in the southwest of the United States, with exceptional snowfall.

Again with 1.3 cm of snowfall in the city (on the “strip”), which are added to the last two sprinkles, Las Vegas is currently experiencing its snowiest February since 1949. It fell to 10 cm yesterday in the hills around the city.

Even rarer, The Angels was also affected: a thin layer of snow (less than 1cm) temporarily held on the ground in certain corners of the city. On the hills (Pasadena and West Hollywood) from 300 m, it is sometimes several centimeters of snow that have held on the ground. We have to go back to 1962 to find such a situation in Los Angeles.

On the side ofArizona, many snow records were broken: this Thursday was the snowiest day in Flagstaff (2000 m) for 120 years with more than 90 cm in 24h. You have to go back to the 1900s to find such heights in Arizona.

This snowstorm is now heading towards the New Mexico, an altitude desert that will be heavily snowed until the weekend. These are then the states of the Big lakes, and the Québec, who will be affected, with up to 25 cm planned locally this weekend.
