Excelsior Scholarship: Study for Free at State Universities in New York

The State of New York opened the application stage for the Excelsior Scholarship or Excelsior Scholarship with which students they can apply to study their university degree for free at state universities.

The state scholarship is administered by the New York Educational Services Corporation and allows young people to pursue their degree without paying tuition at SUNY or CUNY universities.

Students have from today until August 31 at midnight to apply.

The Excelsior Scholarship covers the remainder of tuition expenses, after other federal and state grants and scholarships are applied for, up to the amount of $5,500.

What are the requirements for the Excelsior Scholarship?

  • Be a resident of the State of New York for at least 12 months.
  • Be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Have graduated from High School in the United States or have an equivalency diploma.
  • Have an income of less than $125,000.
  • Be enrolled in SUNY or CUNY universities or a community college.
  • Commit to residing in the State for at least the equivalent time to that which received the scholarship.
