Excelsior has taken over Mats Wieffer from FC Twente. Wieffer is a midfielder (20) who signs for three seasons in Rotterdam.
Wieffer has played at Twente since the D-youth and says goodbye to the club after ten years. “I have talked to a number of clubs and weighed up the options that I had. However, I want to play and the chance is greater at Excelsior,” he says on the club site. “Moreover, the club had a good image of me and they said that they really wanted me. All in all, it gave me a good feeling to choose Excelsior Rotterdam.”
Wieffer wants to play in the Eredivisie with Excelsior. “With Excelsior I think of the Eredivisie and the club also has the ambition to return to that level. The Kitchen Champion Division is a strong competition, but Excelsior can and wants to compete at the top next season.
