Excelsior narrowly beats Telstar

During the second home match of the season, Excelsior won an exciting match against Telstar. The Kralingers played the match in a green-white outfit, as an ode to the 20-year collaboration with main sponsor DSW Zorgverzekeraar. With a score of 3-2, the points remained in a sold-out Van Donge & De Roo Stadium.

A dominant first half

Telstar, second in the league, visited the Kralingers. Both teams played an exciting match, in which Excelsior was the most dominant team. In the first half it was mainly Excelsior that put a lot of pressure. In the tenth minute Naujoks shot against the post, after which striker Omorowa could not convert the rebound.

Telstar first threatened in the 18th minute, but captain Widell was able to clear the ball. Not much later Telstar had another chance, but Raatsie kept his goal clean. Telstar received the first yellow card of the match, after Omorowa was taken down.

The dynamics of the match changed in the thirtieth minute. Hartjes built up from their own half and gave a successful through pass to Naujoks, whose cross Donkor successfully finished. Just before half-time the lead was doubled! A through ball from Bronkhorst was picked up by Fini and shot into the far corner.

A difficult second half

Telstar came back from the break with a substitution, Excelsior came to play with the same eleven players. Nice individual actions resulted in chances for Zagré and Hartjes, but it was Telstar that found the net: 2-1.
Then Excelsior brought on Eijgenraam and Sanches Fernandes made his first minutes of the season. Zach Booth made his debut, when he was brought on in the 73rd minute.

In the last quarter Excelsior extended their lead again. After a beautiful individual action Bronkhorst shot the 3-1.
In the final phase, Van Duinen and Almeida Reis got playing minutes, when they came on the field for Omorowa and Bronkhorst. In the final minutes, Telstar made a connecting goal with a nice long-range shot, but it did not come alongside in the final phase.

Excelsior is now third in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and will play against VVV Venlo on Monday 16 September at home. We will make it a fun evening again, tickets are available via the ticket shop.
