The KNVB cup tournament was shaken up again on Thursday. Excelsior Maassluis managed to eliminate Eredivisie club FC Volendam: 1-0. It is already the sixth time that an amateur club has won against a professional club in the first round.
Redouan Ouali became the man of the evening at Sportpark Dijkpolder. On a pass from Gaultiér Overman, he signed for the 1-0 in the twentieth minute. That was it in Maassluis, which meant that FC Volendam had to return to North Holland with shame.
Every year there are amateurs who perform stunts against clubs from the Kitchen Champion Division and the Eredivisie, but this season takes the cake. SV Spakenburg, GVVV, Quick Boys, HHC Hardenberg and AFC preceded Excelsior Maassluis.
