Excelsior managed to retain three important points with ten men in the match against FC Eindhoven. Kralingen star Derensili Sanches Fernandes was involved in the first goal and scored the second. After 56 minutes of play, Excelsior had to continue with ten men after a second yellow card for defender Kik Pierie.
The match seemed to get off to a bit of a slow start against FC Eindhoven. While Excelsior was the dominant team, it struggled to become truly threatening in the first phase. There were some chances through Eijgenraam, among others, but the midfielder hit the ball wrong. The first chance for FC Eindhoven followed immediately afterwards, but Dorenbosch’s header just went over.
Just before half time, Excelsior managed to make it 2-0 with a beautiful goal from Sanches Fernandes. He manages to grab the ball around the halfway line and can move on to FC Eindhoven’s goal. In the 16 he turns inside and takes a shot at the far bottom corner.
After half-time the situation quickly changed when Pierie picked up his second yellow card after 56 minutes. Excelsior had to defend most of the second half. Some long balls gave them the opportunity to be threatening, including an overhead kick from Omorowa, but the net was no longer found. Goalkeeper Raatsie has again managed to keep a clean sheet in what, according to head coach Ruben den Uil, was the worst match won.
