Excellent performance by FC Korsar athletes in a fencing tournament in Istanbul – 2024-11-12 11:40:00

Excellent performance by FC Korsar competitors in the international fencing tournament in Istanbul.

The first Bulgarian cadet saber team won the silver medals at the tournament in Istanbul, valid for the European Cup.

Nikolay-Thomas Georgiev, Tervel Kasabov, Nikola Meitsov and Dimitar Tonchev from the “Korsar” fencing club showed exceptional fighting spirit and placed second in the competition of 25 teams from 9 countries.

For our country, four more teams took to the trails, and our second team consisting of Konstantin Atanasov, Nikola Ivanov, Nikola Milanov – “Corsair” and Veselin Valev – “Corsair” finished in 11th place.

The Sabers from the first team of Bulgaria Georgiev, Kasabov, Meitsov and Tonchev faced in the second round of the eliminations against the second team of Egypt, they won with 45:27 and guaranteed themselves a place among the best 8.

In the meeting for a place in the semi-finals, our fencers defeated the first team of Romania with 45:30. In the match for the cup, our sabers lost to the first team of Turkey with 30:45.

In the individual competition, Ekaterina Chausheva from the “Korsar” fencing club performed the best among the Bulgarian athletes, who finished eighth in the competition of 85 athletes from 5 countries.

She came out of the groups with 3 wins and 2 losses. In the eliminations, our fencer defeated Melis Gungor from Turkey with 15:13 and Dora Hristova with 15:13.

In the match for a place among the top 8, Chausheva prevailed over Isil Kokaygil from Turkey with 15:7. In the meeting for a place in the semifinals, our saber player lost to Efe Derin from Turkey with 9:15 and finished the tournament in 8th place.
