Excellence in County Government Awards: Nancy Braun and Others Recognized for Dedication and Leadership

BISMARCK — Nancy Braun was among four county officials and one retired state official who were recognized with Excellence in County Government Awards recently by the North Dakota Association of Counties.

The awards honor those who have shown exceptional dedication, leadership and involvement for the good of all counties.

Braun, the Stutsman County Road Department office coordinator, was honored in the County Employee category. Officials said Braun is known for her positive attitude and professionalism. She makes it a priority to build good relationships not only with county staff, but also city and township officials in the county.

Braun knows every detail of how the Road Department works, including financial and personnel records, inventory, parts ordering and stays on top of the day-to-day projects across four divisions within the department. She is entrusted as the go-to person for answering questions from the public, even finding a way to get to work in the worst weather to be sure the department runs well in high-pressure situations.

Braun was nominated for the award by the Stutsman County Commission.

Also honored with awards were Cass County Commissioner Chad Peterson in the County Commissioner category for his local and regional leadership and McKenzie County Auditor/Treasurer Erica Johnsrud in the County Official category. Dale Heglund, retired from his position as North Dakota Local Technical Assistance Program director, received the Dedicated Partner Award. This award recognizes individuals or organizations outside of county government who have contributed to the good of counties.
