[매일일보 민경식 기자] As the high inflation phenomenon continues, consumers’ shopping cart price burden is further increasing.

Although there are variations for each item, the price of major vegetables and livestock products has risen due to an increase in the price of energy required for farming and a sluggish harvest.

According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation on the 23rd, the retail price of green onions and shallots as of the 19th was 10,989 won per 1 kg, up 24.7% (2720 won) from last year (8269 won). The retail price of spinach also increased by 19.15% from a year ago to 8,621 won (per 1kg). The retail price of a carton of eggs and milk (1L) is also 185 won and 524 won higher than the previous year, respectively.

As consumers’ wallets become thinner due to soaring prices, merchants’ worries are also growing. Mr. A, who sells ancestral rites at the market, said, “Compared to last year, the price of goods sold in our store has risen by about 10% overall, but every customer who comes complains that it has risen too much.”

A vegetable shop owner complained, saying that half a bunch of chives costs 5,000 won and a bunch of spinach costs 3,000 won. The merchant said, “I feel that the price of vegetables has risen a lot this year,” and “sometimes customers are surprised to see the price and don’t buy it.”
