The excavation of the Fukushima nuclear power plant sewage subsea tunnel is completed: the total length of 1,000 kilometers will be filled with seawater
Overseas Network, April 26. According to a report by Japan’s Kyodo News on the 26th, Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) announced on the 25th that the excavation of the submarine tunnel for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant’s nuclear polluted water drainage project has been completed.
Tepco said the total length of the tunnel is 1,030 meters. After the equipment in the tunnel is removed, it will be filled with seawater. All projects related to sea discharge in the nuclear power plant are planned to be completed by the end of June. Japan’s “Sankei Shimbun” previously reported that the sea discharge plan will be implemented as early as July.
On April 13, 2021, the Japanese government decided to filter and dilute a large amount of nuclear sewage from Fukushima and discharge it into the sea. This move was strongly opposed by all walks of life in Japan and the international community. (Overseas Network/Wang Shanning)
