Examining the Impact of Parking Space Management Expansion in Vienna: A Before and After Study

On October 1, 2012 and January 1, 2013, parking space management was extended to the entire 15th district and large parts of districts 12, 14, 16 and 17. The present study presents the traffic effects of this expansion by showing the BEFORE situation is compared with the AFTER situation. Parking space management has greatly reduced the demand for parking spaces on the street. Average utilization in the managed districts has fallen from 83% to 60% in the morning and from 88% to 79% in the evening. Residents, suppliers, customers and visitors can now find a parking space much more easily. Due to the large authorization zones, the extent of inland traffic from parking sticker holders was surveyed for the first time in Vienna.
