The state is still working to develop all aspects of the health record. In this context, the Ministry of Health announced that it has screened 1.7 million women for early diagnosis of diseases transmitted from mother to fetus and has provided treatment and free health care, as part of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s initiative to “take care of the health of the mother and the fetus” since its inception. The initiative was launched in March 2020 under the slogan “100 million health”.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, indicated that the initiative aims to detect early infection with ‘B’ virus, HIV and syphilis for pregnant women, as well as reduce maternal deaths resulting from these diseases The initiative also includes monitoring the condition of the mother and the newborn for 42 days after the end of pregnancy to find out the risk factors for the mother or the newborn, take appropriate measures and dispense the necessary micronutrients during the postpartum period.
He added that the initiative includes the confidentiality of analyzes and adequate tests by selecting reagents of international quality standards, also includes advice to prevent diseases and requires the woman’s approval and acceptance of the service.
