Ex-WWE star CM Punk starts at AEW in August!

It has been the hottest rumor on the scene for a few days: Former WWE Champion CM Punk is returning to wrestling after seven and a half years. Now it seems almost certain: The 42-year-old will start at AEW in August.

Now it’s the worst kept secret in pro wrestling! Seven and a half years after leaving WWE, CM Punk returns to the ring!

The speculation about the punk comeback was boiling in the previous week. Sean Ross Sapp from “Fightful” reported on conversations between AEW and the former WWE Champion – without being able to give specific details.

In an interview with the “New York Post”, AEW boss Tony Khan said about rumors of a commitment from CM Punk (and Daniel Bryan): “I have no comment on this. But that’s a good question. But I can’t comment on that. ”A denial sounds different.

ADDITIONAL APPOINTMENT AT THE UNITED CENTER IN AUGUST

But at the latest since the broadcast of Dynamite (in the night on Thursday German time) it is clear: CM Punk will come!

What makes the acceptance so sure: AEW has added another event in Chicago to the calendar at short notice. The second edition of the new TV show “Rampage” will be coming from the United Center on Friday, August 20th. Originally, the episode would have been recorded two days earlier (according to Dynamite).

The show is subtitled “The First Dance”, a reference to the Netflix documentary “The Last Dance” about the golden years of the Chicago Bulls in the late 1990s.

A few days ago, Punk posted a black screen clip on his Instagram story and the song “Sirius” from the Alan Parsons Project. The Chicago Bulls used the song in the nineties for their wedding to Michael Jordan. And where do the Bulls play in Chicago? Exactly: in the United Center.

4 CHICAGO-SHOWS IN 16 TAGEN

This means that AEW will hold four evenings in the Chicago area within 16 days. The United Center is centrally located in the city. This is followed by Dynamite (September 1st), Rampage (September 3rd) and the PPV All Out (September 5th) in the Now Arena (formerly: Sears Center) in the Chicago suburb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

The PPV is already sold out, most of the tickets for the two TV programs in the Now Arena have been taken. Now, a few days earlier, the United Center will be added, a hall with a capacity of 20,000 people.

DARBY ALLIN ADDRESSES THE “BEST IN THE WORLD”

And who will be CM Punk’s first opponent? Apparently: Darby Allin.

Because after the announcement about “The First Dance” we saw Darby in an interview with Tony Schiavone: “I’ve met many men in this world who claimed to be the greatest. There’s only one place to really prove it. Here at AEW. Even if you think you’re the ‘Best in the World’. “

The next obvious reference to CM punk – unless Darby Allin was trying to attract Shane McMahon.

Conceivable: In the United Center, a match between CM Punk and Darby Allin will be made official for Pay-Per-View two weeks later.

AEW’s tactics are obvious: From this Monday, the tickets for the new date on September 20 will be sold in large numbers in the United Center. The audience has been shown what they can expect … without directly saying “the surprise”!

A few days ago we conducted a personal interview with CM Punk – about a possible return to the ring, his exit in spring 2014 and his role in the new wrestling drama series “Heels”, which will start on September 15th at Starzplay.de runs.

The new power wrestling is available from tomorrow (Friday) in stores, or already here.

In addition to the CM Punk hint, there was a lot more sensational events at Dynamite this week – including Chris Jericho in a death match. Everything about the show can be found here:
