Ex-Wolfsburg manager Allofs wants to bring Klaus to Düsseldorf

VfL played two games this year, and Felix Klaus was not part of the squad twice. The offensive man of the Wolfsburg Bundesliga club doesn’t like that, his ex-club Hannover 96 has him in their sights, but can’t afford him. However: Klaus is still facing a change. The hottest candidate is Fortuna Düsseldorf, ex-VfL manager Klaus Allofs works for the second division.

Klaus moved from Hannover 96 to Wolfsburg in the summer of 2018, the transfer was arranged by the then VfL sports director Olaf Rebbe, whom Allofs had brought to Wolfsburg from Bremen. With Allofs things went steeply for VfL, right up to the Champions League, in 2015 the cup was won for the first time in VfL history before Allofs had to leave in winter 2016. In September 2020, Allofs returned to his former club in Düsseldorf. The 64-year-old has joined the board of the second division, which is fifth in the table. Allofs and CEO Thomas Röttgermann, who also had a contract with VfL as managing director, want to lead the second division team in German football into the top 10 in the medium term.

It’s all a dream of the future, first of all, the former club of VfL manager Jörg Schmadtke wants to return to the Bundesliga. Klaus should help with this. At VfL, the winger shuttled between the pitch and the bench. In the two and a half years in Wolfsburg he only made 52 competitive games in which he scored one goal and three assists – also because of an injury immediately after his move from Hanover. After Klaus had not been part of the squad in both games of the new year, he was also absent from the first training session on the field on Tuesday afternoon, which should also speak for a quick farewell. When asked, it was said that the 28-year-old was training individually.

But not only Klaus was absent from the training field on Tuesday. Marin Pongracic, who had to be replaced at half-time due to breathing problems at Union and is being examined further, was not there yet. The same applies to Jerome Roussillon, who after his corona infection shortly before Christmas had already participated in parts of the team training, but this time did not participate because he has not yet been approved for training. Also bitter: Left-back colleague Paulo Otavio was also not on the field, he emerged from the Union game battered. As expected, Josip Brekalo did not practice either, he had been hit on the thigh in Berlin and is out for a few days. Jeffrey Bruma (as a contact person in corona quarantine) and goalkeeper Lino Kasten (abdominal muscle strain) were also missing.
