A former Navy SEAL United States of America died in Ukraine earlier this week. He is said to have deserted from the US Navy special forces in 2019.
“The Navy can confirm a former sailor died on Dnipro, Ukraine on January 18, 2023,” a US Navy official said in a statement on Friday (20/1) local time.
“We cannot speculate why the former sailor was in Ukraine,” he added, according to news agencies AFPSaturday (21/1/2023).
The statement is accompanied by a bio showing that Daniel Whitney Swift has attained the rank of Special Warfare Operator 1st Class.
The US Navy official did not provide further information about the details of his desertion from the US Navy.
The US government has been trying to prevent its citizens from going to war in Ukraine. However, several Americans have died there since Russia invaded last February 2022.
