Hertha President: Ex-Ultra Bernstein beats Steffel and Brumme
Bernstein prevailed against both outsiders Marvin Brumme and Frank Steffel. The latter is a company and was also a promising candidate because of his background as a long-standing member of the Bundestag.
Hertha had been looking for a new president since May 24, 2022. On this day, Werner Gegenbauer resigned from the old lady of German football after 14 years.
Bernstein: “Old lady is in intensive care”
Bernstein found clear words after his election. “Our old lady is in intensive care. Now we can heal her holistically from the inside and make her healthy,” said the 41-year-old: “We need an honest, real restart.”
The Berliners had only managed to stay up in the Bundesliga in the relegation last season. In addition, Hertha has had turbulent months and years since investor Lars Windhorst got on board.
