Both hockey teams of the Crefelder HTC start into the indoor season at the weekend and will initially compete at the DHC on Saturday, before the teams from Blau-Weiß Cologne will be guests in the Glockenspitzhalle on Sunday. Both the men, who have had some personnel changes, and the women, play in the 1st Bundesliga. After the last Corona indoor season did not take place for some reason, players and fans are looking forward to a very intense playing time. The ten group games will be played over five double weekends until January 9th before the relegated team and participants for the next round are determined.
Men’s coach Ronan Gormley is supported by long-time coach Matthias Mahn and women’s coach André Schiefer, both of whom have extensive experience in indoor hockey. In contrast to the field, the squad has changed slightly, as the international players Neal Glassey, goalkeeper Adrian Henriquez Haug and striker Nicolas Acosta do not complete the hall and with Lars Conzendorf and Jannick Eschler, top performers are initially lacking. Captain Linus Michler only returned to training in the past few days after his hand injury. New are Max Sweering, who previously played in the Netherlands, and Kirschan Schliemann. Together with Christian Schulte, who is now 46 years old and, among other things, world champion in the hall and on the field, he will make up the goalkeeping team. “It’s a tight group that makes it difficult to attack Cologne and Mülheim with their individually strong squads. DHC and Blau-Weiß are on a similar level and, like Neuss, are real hall specialists with good individual players, ”says Ronan Gormley.

For women, staying in the league is the top priority. “We know that we have no chance against the top teams from Düsseldorf and RW Köln and that it will also be difficult against Mülheim. So we have to get the points against Bonn and Blau-Weiß. As a result, we have a comparatively easy game against the DHC, since the starting position is clear there, but we have an obligation to score against Blau-Weiß Köln, “emphasizes André Schiefer.

Some of the young players are completing their first indoor season in the women’s area, including high-flyer Toni Hufer. In contrast to the last indoor season, there is a lack of real top performers, including Pia Alex and Helene Stöckmann. Cleo Esser from league competitor Düsseldorfer HC is new. “In the hall it is again more important to play as a unit, as there is little space and the smallest mistakes are punished directly. It is very exciting for the spectators because there is more action and games can be completely rotated within a few minutes, ”says captain Nike Michler, describing the special features of indoor hockey. The teams play their home games in the Glockenspitzhalle.
