Moscow –
Ex president Russia Dmitry Medvedev insists that it is ‘foolish’ to believe Western sanctions against Russian businesses will have an impact on the government in Moscow. A series of sanctions have been imposed by the West on officials to businessmen and members of the Russian parliament over the invasion of Russia Ukraine.
As reported BBCFriday (25/3/2022), a number of sanctions from Western countries even specifically targeted Russian businessmen and billionaires who were believed to be close to the President. Vladimir Putin.
Medvedev, who is now deputy head of the Russian Security Council – the Russian presidential constitutional body that compiles presidential decrees on matters of national security and strategic importance, stressed that Western sanctions would not affect the Russian government.
The Russian Security Council is known to consist of high-ranking Russian officials as well as heads of defense and security agencies, and is chaired directly by the Russian President, in this case Putin.
“Let’s ask ourselves: Can any one of these big businessmen have the smallest quantum influence on the country’s leadership position?” asked Medvedev in an interview with a Russian news agency, RIA.
“I am frankly telling you: no, it is not possible,” said Medvedev, who served as Russia’s president for the period 2008-2012.
