Ex-Princess Mako works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

On October 26, 2021, Princess Mako, 30, gave the vows to her great love Kei Komuro, 30, amid loud protests from the population, shortly afterwards she left her home with her husband. The reason: her desire to marry a commoner did not fit into the strict traditions of the Japanese imperial family. So Mako not only lost her title, but also a piece of her family.

Since then, Mako and Kei have been building a new life in New York. While it is known that Kei only recently dared a second attempt to finally pass his bar exam and works part-time as a trainee lawyer at the law firm Lowenstein Sandler, it was previously unclear how Mako spends her time in the Big Apple. Now the newspaper “Japan Times” claims to have learned from an insider that the 30-year-old works as a volunteer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) as a curator.

The former princess graduated from the International Christian University in Tokyo with a degree in Arts and Heritage, before going on to do a Bachelors in Arts and Heritage and a Masters in Museums from Leicester in 2014. In 2016, Mako became a research fellow at Tokyo University Museum and participated in the doctoral program.
