Ex-NATO Secretary General criticized Germany’s position on arms supplies to Ukraine

Rasmussen urged the Europeans to immediately stop importing oil and gas from Russia.

Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen criticized the government’s position Germany on Russia’s war against Ukraine.

He stated this in an interview with the newspaper Handelsblatt.

Germany is “too hesitant to put in heavy weapons and impose sanctions,” he said.

“Of course, Germany is heavily dependent on Russian gas imports, but I think a clear position from the federal government would change the whole dynamic in Ukraine. We need German leadership,” Rasmussen said.

Germany’s position on the supply of weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Formerly Ukrainian Ambassador Andrey Melnik lashed out on FRN Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In his opinion, the head of the federal government probably does not want to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons.

“We have the impression that the chancellor does not want to do this. There are only seven self-propelled howitzers, but there are no Gepard tanks, no Leopard 1 or Marder infantry fighting vehicles. All of them have already been decommissioned by the Bundeswehr and can be transferred to us by the defense industry, without harm for Germany to defend itself,” the diplomat said.

Germany also blocked the transfer of T-72 tanks from Slovenia.

“It’s an insidious logic that leaves people in trouble,” Melnik said.
