For years, the group from Perpignan the Limiñanas has hit the international charts with their quirky pop rock. Lionel and Marie Limiñana meet during their high school years. After 15 years of musical activism with participations in various groups, then record stores in Perpignan and finally concert organizers, they founded The Limiñanas in 2009. Together, they will give concerts all over the world, acquired by a public of initiates. .
Today, the former singer of the legendary duo is embarking on a solo album, suave and sparkling. That of the renewal of a woman who asserts herself by laughing, free and steeped in music. Meet.
Why this solo album?
The album comes out on Friday, it’s called “Bad Sunday”. I had released several singles. But in 5 years, I progressed gradually by finding partners in England. This is my first album, a 9 tracks. It was supposed to be a 7 headline that recounted Nika’s 7 days of the week. In the end, it is rather the days follow one another and do not look alike. With two Sundays, a good one and a bad one. The bad in hangover mode and want to do nothing. And the “good sunday”, the positive side, with a bright future.
“Bad Sunday”, 9-track album made of the same wood, raw, powerful, explosive, one of those opus which slams in the wind and without warning upset the established order, oscillating gently between calm and storm, introspection and the desire to breaking everything, joyful melancholy and invigorating euphoria.
How long did it take you to write this album?
It came through my travels with the Limiñanas, depending on the countries and cities I crossed. Also nourished by my thirst for life and my daily life, even in my bathroom! It’s an exploration. I am very much in the extrapolation of my daily life. I even did a song about the stress of the zom conference!

How did you experience confinement as an artist?
It emptied the theaters and filled our pockets with pounds of lead. I did a few lives on social networks and then I quit, it’s not our job. It created a few songs too. I wrote one on the Lac du Salagou near my home, “The Lake”, where we were not allowed to go during the first confinement. I also wrote a song about domestic violence, when you are locked up 24 hours a day with your partner and where things go wrong.
Is it over with Limiñanas?
By force of circumstances, I left. It was a great adventure, I loved it! Our first concert was in Holland, in my grandparents’ city, it was awesome! The Limiñanas brought me a lot of happiness and tons of memories! I met Pete Doherty in a festival box and we played together. I ran into Rodolphe Burger and we played Johnny Hallyday, it was huge !! Extraordinary moments! In Athens, there was a magnificent moment of inspiration where your heart is in tune with all that surrounds it …
Upcoming concerts?
We have no certainty, we will try a lighter version for this summer or at the end of the year …. We remain cautious. But we are in lack of parties, of gatherings. Living without music is complicated, it’s impossible in fact. I miss the scene.
Nika Leeflang gives a concert Friday March 19 at 8:45 p.m. on Instagram for the release of his album “Bad Sunday”.
