Ryan, who was married to Naya from 2014 to 2018, wants Ventura County, United Water Conservation District and Parks and Recreation Management to be held liable for the actress’s death. The indictment states that her death was preventable and that the boat Naya rented did not meet safety standards.

Naya died in early July after drowning in Lake Piru in Ventura County in southern California. She had gone sailing that day with her five-year-old son Josey. He saw his mother disappear underwater after a swim after she was able to hoist the boy onto the boat with her last strength. Josey was eventually found sleeping on the boat by other boat tourists, who immediately alerted the police.
